We will send you all the forms necessary to be evaluated. In them, you will have the opportunity to briefly explain the medical reason you are pursuing this therapy. It is rare that the doctor will need additional information. Between the intake forms and your telehealth interview, the provider typically can make the determination.

The online video consultation is quick and effortless. When your appointment time nears, we will send a text and email with a link to your video call. Simply click on either link to connect. You don’t need to download anything. 

Your telehealth interview is an opportunity to explain your situation, to learn about cannabis therapy, and to learn about the process of obtaining your marijuana products. We work hard to ensure it is a friendly, supportive conversation and a valuable experience for you.

First, the provider will review your intake forms and clarify any points.

Next, they will explain the reasons why cannabis may help you. If requested, we will send you additional literature explaining the science of cannabis and medical marijuana qualifying conditions as they pertain to your situation. 

Then they will explain the process for getting started at dispensaries and send you a list of all Virginia dispensaries.

Last, they will send you a link to access your certificate at the Virginia Cannabis Authority patient portal.

Sometimes patients are too ill or cannot communicate due to stroke or other diseases. Patients may sometimes be under the age of consent. In these cases, the patient can elect a person as caregiver.

Caregivers can act on behalf of the patient during the medical evaluation process. Caregivers can also purchase medical marijuana products for medical marijuana patients who cannot do so on their own. Caregivers can be the legal guardians or parents of qualified minor patients, or family of an incapacitated adult patient.

To register as a caregiver, you will meet with the ReThink-Rx doctor and, when approved, receive a special medical cannabis certificate that allows you to act on behalf of the patient. The card will allow you to purchase medical marijuana products from dispensaries on behalf of your patient.

Since Virginia relaxed the qualifying requirements, it is rare for anyone not to qualify. Any condition that can be improved by responsible medical cannabis use usually falls under the spectrum of Virginia’s medical cannabis eligible conditions and will qualify you.

That said, if the doctor feels this is not a good therapy for you and the risks outweigh the benefits, you will not be approved (Learn more HERE). In that rare event, we will refund 100% of your payment. No problem.

If you have questions after your interview, you are always welcome to return and ask as much as you need. Yes, your ReThink-Rx medical provider will explain in detail all about the science of cannabis, will suggest an initial plan and will provide written educational materials to further enhance your understanding. 

Some insurance companies may cover the cost of a Virginia medical marijuana card, but it is not required by law. Patients should check with their insurance providers to see if they offer coverage for medical marijuana cards before applying for one. If your provider won’t cover the cost of your card, you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket for it.

Parents and legal guardians of minors and incapacitated adults may act as caregivers under the VA medical marijuana program. This allows them to legally obtain and possess marijuana for the medical marijuana patients under their care.

Caregivers must be named on the patient’s written certification. Registration with the state is no longer required.
